Dennis Rodman Is Celebrity Wrestling Champion - Hulk Hogan’s Celebrity Championship Wrestling - CMT - Reality TV Circus

rodman.jpgDennis Rodman may be known for a lot of things (5-minute marriage to Carmen Electra chief among them) but one thing he’s really good at is winning championships!

He put that experience on display this evening, outlasting Todd Bridges of Different Strokes in the finale.

The judges said his routine was the most believeable of the wrestlers and so he was crowned with the first ever championship belt.

In the semifinals Eric “Butterbean” Esch and Dustin “Screech” Diamond were eliminated, even though one judge (Mouth of the South Jimmy Hart) said he’d take Butterbean on as a client “in a heartbeat.”

Diamond was obviously battered and bruised throughout (diagnosed with broken ribs weeks ago) and so for him to make it to this point was obviously a victory and he vowed he’d return next season when his broken ribs and the rest of his body had healed.

That left Rodman (or “The Worm” as I remember from his NBA glory days) to face off against Bridges, who has arguably been the best wrestler and actor throughout the series. But Rodman had always had the crowd behind him and tonight wasn’t any different.

He just seemed to know tonight would be his night and he made it look effortless out there, even flying off the ropes for a few takedowns (not an easy maneuver for even a pro!). Butterbean even tried a double clothesline in the semis to try and take some of the fan support off Rodman, to no avail.

Rodman is and will always be a born showman and is arguably the greatest rebounder to have ever played the game of basketball. People may scoff at his eccentricities but the fact is he’s just a good ‘ol boy from Texas who had an opportunity to get in the limelight with Hulk Hogan’s Celebrity Championship Wrestling and his childhood idol Hogan and he did just that.

But I have to say I was equally impressed with Diamond, who finally showed there is more to him that just rumors. I’d look for Diamond to make a serious run at the second-ever title belt. What did you think? I know you have opinions just like me.
